The soft carpet-floor of the gymnasium made for a good nights sleep. Love me a bit of flat earth. I got up and went out for breakfast. I brought my keyboard with me and sorted out the majority of my backlogged entries while feasting on a massive breakfast burrito; the thing was a monster. And Oh the joy of a good cup of coffee, yumyum!
After breaking my fast, I went back the multipurpose building, grabbed my laundry and headed over to the laundromat. As I was waiting for my clothes to be washed I had a phone conversation with my dad. It was fun to catch up. On to the local library. Hoping to get a strong WiFi signal there to have another attempt at uploading my photo’s to the cloud. Unfortunately upon plugging in my phone, and getting the process started, I learned that the estimated time to back-up everything up would be approximately 3 hours. Which I did not have. Nor would the library be open that long… So now I just have to hope that I’ll have enough memory left on my phone to make it through the next stretch. Maybe if I leave it running overnight somewhere with proper internet I can get it done. Time to hit the grocery store. I got my 3-day resupply for the short stretch into the town of Dunsmuir, a little under 90 miles away.
I met a bunch of new hikers today, two of them called Dirt and Cookie, and had a great time during chatting with them in the evening. There’s just so many wonderful people out here, from all walks of life, with such different and cool stories, I can’t get enough of meeting new people.
It was nice to zone out today. The large group of hikers that I’d been hiking with the past week has all left and I know that they will be crushing big days, so I wonder if/when I’ll catch them again. The smoke from the nearby Redding fire is still pretty heavy, causing some of the hikers to skip the next stretch of the trail. I bought a few mouth-cover masks (those surgeon kinda thingy’s) which should help prevent against the ash particles in the air.
I didn’t go out for dinner tonight, instead I fixed myself some tortillas with goats cheese and a ice-cream for dessert. Tomorrow an early rise to see if I can hitch out to the trail-head at a reasonable hour.
To know you
Means a lot of things
Lot of love, lot of dreams
You are a world
I can’t explore
You’re a scene
Got a feeling about
What that’s gonna mean
To be around you
Means I can’t be there
Got to take my mind
Out of there
To explain you
Means my heart in show
You are the reminder
Of the nothingness
I’m open to
To Know You – Sophie Zelmani
